Individual Therapy

Whatever may be going on in your life that has led you to consider King Kalakaua Center, you've taken an important step in the journey to healing by deciding to seek therapeutic services. We are so glad you are here! Choosing a therapist can be a daunting task and even more so, finding one who is a good fit for your needs may seem impossible. The practitioners at King Kalakaua Center have diverse backgrounds and specialties. We have professionals who practice in the treatment of highly specialized issues such as trauma; individuals or couples facing serious or terminal illness; loss, death, and dying; feminist and gay/lesbian issues; sexuality; relationship patterns; as well as broader areas including anxiety, depression, ADHD, and so on. Individual therapy varies from person to person and therapist to therapist. We invite you to explore the profiles of the therapists at KKC and contact us to see how we can assist you.

Couple's Therapy

King Kalakaua Center is the birthplace of the Two-on-Two approach to couple’s therapy, where each partner in the couple has their own therapist (may depend on insurance type of the couple). This sophisticated therapeutic approach assesses the unique needs and personality style of each individual, the interrelationship of each partner’s dynamics, the strengths of these relationships, and their challenges. Therapy involves couple’s sessions as well as couples-oriented individual sessions. We find that with this approach we have been able to address the specific needs of each couple more accurately and completely than with other techniques using fixed or behavior-based approaches.

Family Therapy

Family therapy typically is a couple’s therapy with children and/or grandparents present. Just as in couple’s therapy, we view the family as a complex and unique social system that may need guidance in making adjustments so that the system works better. King Kalakaua Center will work with you to help determine the best way to structure family therapy sessions to benefit each member of the family.

Group Therapy

Mommies Monday Mourning
Is a grief support group that meets every 3 rd Monday of
the month from 4:30-6:00 pm. in Hawaii Kai
Come meet Luisa and a group of individuals from different
families who have experienced the loss of a child. Group
members can learn from and, possibly, related to each other
in a professional setting. We create a safe place for
mommies to feel welcome, supported, and connected to
share authentic emotion, at their own pace.
Everyone grieves in their own way, regardless of the type of
loss experienced. When grieving the loss of a child, of any
age, the grief process rarely follows a predictable pattern.
Whether your loss was recent or years ago, YOU are not
alone; together, we will survive…thrive!
